Now before I start the actual list, there are a couple of films that I have to mention because Johnny Depp has made so many films that I absolutely love. Firstly I have to mention Alice In Wonderland simply because I love what Tim Burton did with this film, it was so different than most previous Disney films and yet worked better than most. Put together a great cast and an entertaining storyline based on Alice In Wonderland and this is what you get, also Depp's performance as the Mad Hatter was absolutely brilliant. The other film I have to mention is Secret Window. Whilst many people criticise this film for its ending, I found it to be thoroughly entertaining, as was the entire film. Depp's characters descent in to madness was so enticing and entertaining to watch. Anyway onto the actual list!
5. Sleepy Hollow
This film is brilliant. I could watch this film over and over without getting bored of it. The storyline is gripping and entertaining and the characters are all fun to watch and brilliantly scripted. What made this film great is how it was unpredictable, as if anything could happen next. Johnny Depp plays the role of Ichabod Crane extremely well, providing audiences with an awkward hero that you love to watch. Sleep Hollow is absolutely brilliant.
4. Edward Scissorhands
Need I say anything about this brilliant film? If you haven't seen Edward Scissorhands then I truly do not know what's wrong with you because this film is one of the greatest films I've ever seen! Johnny Depp is absolutely brilliant in this film, his performance is truly Oscar worthy in my opinion. Mix his performances with the rest of the casts as well as the enticing storyline and you have an absolute masterpiece straight out of Tim Burton's strange yet brilliant mind. This film is amazing!
3. Public Enemies
This film is so underrated and underappreciated. This film is definitely one of my favourites of recent years, I can barely even complain about it (that's hard to do when you're a film studies student). Johnny Depp portrays the infamous bank robber, John Dillinger perfectly, throughout the film you actually sympathise with his character even though he's the bad guy, that's just how good Depp is. The story, most likely because it's not one hundred per cent historically accurate, is so fun to watch and so entertaining, keeping viewers gripped for two hours. Public Enemies is honestly brilliant, definitely go watch it
2. Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise
It's just too hard to pick one of his performances as Captain Jack Sparrow because all four so far have been amazing. Depp portrays the pirate in a way that has viewers rooting for him as well as finding him hilarious, his action sequences are also thoroughly entertaining. What makes these films so brilliant, aside from Depp's performance, is the story in all four, they are all so entertaining and fun to watch. People argue that the series has got worse with every film however I would say the opposite, each film has been more and more entertaining. You need to watch all of these.
1. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
Man I love this film, it's absolutely brilliant, in fact it's the only musical I like, it's that good. Tim Burton mixed with Johnny Depp always works so perfectly and this is the peak of their work together. Depp plays the barber in a way that is haunting yet so entertaining, I cannot recommend this film enough. The story to this film is exceptional and all the casts performances are amazing. Definitely give this film a watch!

5. The great Gatsby
I don't know why I do but I just love this film, it's so entertaining and fun to watch and Leo plays the mysterious role of Jay Gatsby perfectly. It wasn't just Leo's role in the film that made it so entertaining either, the story was intriguing, the characters fun to watch and the film itself was so vibrant and full of colour, it was certainly one of Leo's best to date. 4. Django Unchained Django Unchained is not only one of my favourite Leo DiCaprio films but one of my favourite films of recent years. Django is brilliant, full of violence and gore, an amazing story and an exceptional cast. Leo plays the villain in this film, for a change, and is so brilliant as Mr Candie. Leo also provided audiences with one of the best on-the-spot moments in cinema history when he smashes his hand and smothers the blood on that poor woman. It was his real blood! I do feel sorry for that woman though. Django was absolutely exceptional! 3. Shutter island Shutter Island is probably the best psychological thriller I have ever seen and Leo's performance is just as good. Shutter Island is gripping, enticing and so unpredictable, an absolute masterpiece from Martin Scorsese and his lead actor. All the characters are so unpredictable as well as the story itself, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats for the entirety of the film. If you haven't seen this film you need to! 2. Inception Admittedly I did have to watch this film a couple of times before I fully understood it, but who didn't? Inception is definitely one of Leo's best performances as well as one of Christopher Nolan's best films. This film is so amazing, gripping and of the best films in cinema history because of so many reasons, for example the way in which the film challenges your mind to really think about what's going on, that was so entertaining. Leo is his usual self in this, playing such an entertaining character who you love to see on screen and are always rooting for, I can have absolutely no doubts about how brilliant he was in this film, definitely watch Inception if you haven't already! 1. The Wolf Of Wall Street Was there any doubt about what would be number one? How did Leo not win an Oscar for his performance in this film I will forever ask because he was simply exceptional, fun to watch and so entertaining as Jordan Belfort. Teaming up again with Martin Scorsese was great for Leo because his performances in Scorsese's films are always amazing. The storyline to this film was amazing, as always and The Wolf Of Wall Street is certainly one of my favourite films of all time. Damn he deserved an Oscar for this. Let me know your favourite Leo DiCaprio performances in the comments below! 5. Breaking Bad
Another day this would have been higher on the list because Breaking Bad is an absolutely outstanding show. It never failed to amaze me. Ozymandias is among the greatest episode I have ever seen in any TV show, it had my jaw dropped throughout the episode. Breaking Bad is undoubtedly one of the greatest television shows of all time, highlighted by its sky-high reviews worldwide. Definitely go watch Breaking Bad. 4. The Walking Dead I absolutely love this show. The Walking Dead is one of the best shows I have ever seen, always gripping viewers and making them want to watch on, the show even managed to eclipse the success of the comics the show's based on. Having a spin-off show come out in the summer shows just how successful it is. The Walking Dead is certainly a show I would recommend to anyone because it's absolutely brilliant. It's easy to watch yet so gripping, with stellar performances from the entire cast, this show is excellent! 3. Hannibal I am still shocked by the news that season three of this show will be its last because Hannibal is by far one of my favourite shows, it's so brilliant, elegant and so intriguing, so hard to take your eyes off of. Mads Mikkelsen plays the role of serial killer Hannibal Lecter in a way that is quite intimidating yet so fun to watch, it's such an amazing show. Definitely go and watch Hannibal before it's gone, please can some network pick up Hannibal and continue it? 2. How I Met Your Mother This show is extremely different to all the other shows as this is a sitcom whereas the others are dramas. HIMYM is undoubtedly one of my favourite shows of all time. It was so sad to see the show finish because I truly loved this show. HIMYM was so entertaining, so fun to watch and so funny. The storyline was brilliantly put together and so fun to follow. All the main cast are brilliant and I absolutely love everything about this show, definitely binge watch this show immediately! 1. House Of Cards If you read my recent review on this then you'll know that this show is my favourite TV show. House Of Cards is absolutely brilliant, Kevin Spacey is mesmerising as Frank Underwood and his marriage to Claire in the series is so powerful and so amazing. Everyone needs to go and watch this show because it is so amazing and so unlike anything you've ever seen before, House Of Cards is absolutely amazing, easily my favourite TV show of all time. 5. Toy Story Now I warn you before you read anymore, this list will shock you, most of you will not agree with me, all I ask is that you read it in understand that these are my opinions. I thoroughly enjoyed all (bar one) of the Star Wars films and so I thought I would make a list about which I favoured, thanks for reading!
6. Episode II: Attack Of The Clones Oh my this film, to say it was shocking does not do bad films justice, it was appalling! So bad in fact if almost pains me to watch it. Hayden Christensen's first appearance as the infamous Anakin Skywalker was not an appearance to be savoured, providing a dire performance mixed in with poor dialogue that has viewers wishing they hadn't seen the film. Whilst it was cool to see Master Yoder kick ass, the film was just terrible altogether. 5. Episode IV: A New Hope Whilst A New Hope certainly laid the foundations for the series, and the sci-fi genre, the film itself bored me. The film lacked action scenes, had poor dialogue and really wasn't actually that great, as I wrote in my previous blog post, the original trilogy was only viewed in such an amazing fashion because it was so original. A New Hope did have a good story though, constantly keeping viewers interested. Damn Luke is whiny though! 4. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Now this is where many of you will start to disagree. I realise the Empire is one of the most highly viewed films in cinema history, it just wasn't that amazing though. Whilst there was certainly more action, the dialogue was again still terrible (what do you expect, thanks George Lucas) and it could have been a lot better. The story however was just exceptional I must say, the 'I am your father' still gives me chills. The 'I know' scene has also become iconic in cinema history, it was a great film, just not as great as everyone says. 3. Episode I: A Phantom Menace I can't deny it, I thoroughly enjoyed this film, I do every time I watch it, sorry Star Wars fans. The reason I enjoy this film so much is the same reason most adults enjoy the original trilogy; I grew up watching it. I didn't grow up thinking Jar-Jar was rubbish, he was funny to kids. I didn't grow up taking notes of the poor dialogue and boring political scenes, I just didn't care for them. Darth Maul is, for me, the best villain of the prequel trilogy and deserves his own spin-off film, the battle between him, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gonn was one of the most entertaining lightsaber battles in the saga for me, I just found it to be so enjoyable, simply because I was a kid. 2. Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi Man I love this film, it's most definitely the best of the originals. Just that iconic lightsaber battle between Luke and his father was the highlight of the original trilogy for me. One criticism of the film which I have is heavily shared, why did they kill off Bobba Fett so early on? At least he might get a solo film now! I absolute love Return, it's one of my favourite films of all time, it has so many iconic moments and just always keeps me on the edge of my seat wanting to watch on. 1. Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith Well that only leaves one, I absolutely love Revenge, it is most definitely my favourite in the saga, with so many epic lightsaber battles and intense action amongst a quite good storyline, especially for Lucas, Revenge certainly earned it's place at the top of this list. The final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin was my favourite part of the entire saga, and no I don't care that it lasted so long. All the lightsaber battles were amazing, gripping and just so entertaining. Ian McDiarmid played the role of Darth Sidious exceptionally well and Ewen McGregor made the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi his own, despite Alec Guinness playing the role so well in the originals. Yes the dialogue was still quite poor but come on folks what were you expecting? It's George Lucas! Admittedly the film had its flaws but I thoroughly enjoyed it, putting it at number one on my list. Let me know your order of the Star Wars films in the comment! Man I'm so excited for The Force Awakens! Considering the fact that there are so many blockbusters coming out in the near future (comic-book based films especially), I thought that I would put together a list of my top 5 anticipated movies, simply because I'm so damn excited for so many different upcoming movies! 2014 was a year full of blockbusters, perhaps one of the best years for the film industry in history, bringing viewers all new experiences on the big screen. After seeing so many amazing films during the course of the year I've decided to do a list of my top 10 films of 2014, so here you go! 10. A Walk Among the Tombstones I must admit I did not think this film was going to be very good, it was just one of those films I watched to pass the time. However this film completely exceeded my expectations, it was amazing. Liam Neeson was his usual self, playing the lead role in an action film very well. I loved the action in the film and the mystery that surrounded it, I just thought that A Walk Among the Tombstones was a lot better than people give it credit for.
9. X-Men Days of Future Past DOFP has received much criticism since it came out by I really enjoyed it, of course it's a typical comic-book film where all the heroes survive no matter what but the film itself still has a very interesting concept that always kept me enticed in the film, wondering what could happen next. As per usual in a Marvel film the action was gripping, always keeping me on the edge of my seat. Hugh Jackman, as always, was just exceptional in reprising his role as Wolverine. The after-credits scene was also very intriguing, getting viewers extremely excited for X-Men Apocalypse. The way the film was left on a cliff-hanger also got me so excited for the next film. 8. The Lego Movie I loved this film so much. Although it's a kids film I thought it was awesome, it was like I was taking a step back into my childhood and that was amazing, being a Will Ferrell fan also made this film so awesome, having him voice 'President Evil' was so fun to watch. I found the storyline to be so fun and intriguing and I just kept wanting to watch on. The theme song admittedly was so annoying but yet so catchy, I was singing it for days after watching it, I just couldn't get it out of my head. As the song says, everything is awesome about this film. 7. The Grand Budapest Hotel I could watch this film over and over, it's just so great. The story was brilliant, the characters are brilliant, I love Ralph Fiennes in all his roles and, as expected, he was brilliant. I just loved this film. I loved the cast, everyone played their roles in the film so well, I could watch this film over and over and it would never get boring, it mixes drama and comedy together perfectly and always stays interesting. 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier Whilst this certainly isn't the best Marvel film to date, it's certainly up there with the best, the first Captain America was brilliant so going into this film I doubted it could top the first, or my usually high expectations, but it did both and it did it so well. There are constant twists throughout the film that you just don't see coming. Chris Evans was amazing, of course, reprising his role as the first Avenger for a third time, the use of Scarlett Johansson in a bigger role worked really well. The film was just exceptional, one of my favourite Marvel films to date. 5. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes I only saw this film recently and after seeing it I could only wish I watched it sooner, the sequel to Rise was just amazing, despite the practically identitical titles. I spent 2 hours on the edge of my seat, it was just so gripping and so easy to watch, it was an absolute masterpiece. Andy Serkis cemented his place as the king of motion capture with his performance as Caesar, king of the Apes, he was just amazing as always! Dawn is another film that I could just watch over and over, it's so amazing and gripping. 4. Gone Girl Wow, if I needed one word to describe this film then wow is it. Gone Girl absolutely blew me away, the constant suspense and how you never know just what might happen next always kept me wanting to watch on. Rosamund Pike delivered as Oscar-worthy performance as Amy, the whole film was just jaw-dropping, it was well worth the wait to watch it. 3. Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians is by far the best movie Marvel has made to date, combining action with comedy and suspense to make one of the best sci-fi films of recent films, leaving audiences grasping for more. Chris Pratt was his usual, amazing self which made the film even better, he play Starlord so well. The story is brilliant, the visual effects spectacular, it really is quite hard to find any complaints about this film, I really did think it was that amazing. 2. The Hobbits: The Battle of Five Armies I must say that I never really wanted this film to come, that I never wanted to see an end to the Middle-Earth saga. The Battle of Five Armies, however, was a perfect end to the Middle-Earth saga. Always keeping me enticed in the action. The Battle for the mountain was just so riveting and awe-inspiring. As there are in every film, there were many twists and shocks in this film but that just added to the suspense. Ian McKellen was obviously so amazing as Gandalf! The Battle of Five Armies blew me away. 1. Interstellar Interstellar was not just my favourite film of 2014, but my favourite sci-fi film of the 21st century. I absolutely loved this film, it blew me away, kept me thinking for 2 hours, it really challenged my mind to think about the film and the universe and it was just so intriguing, such a powerful film. Matthew McConaughey was brilliant in his role as Cooper, as well as Anne Hathaway in her role as Brand. Christopher Nolan continued his record of making some of the best films of recent years, he and his brother, Jonathon, write some of the most interesting, complex films which is why their films are so popular. If you haven't seen Interstellar then please go and watch it because it's such an amazing film, the visual effects are stunning, giving you an insight into what you could believe is our real universe, what makes the film even better is that Christopher Nolan uses as many practical effects as possible, making the film seem so realistic. Interstellar is such an amazing film, an easy pick for my favourite film of 2014. What where your guys' favourite films of 2014? let me know in the comments! |
